Artists Marque is a research initiative within the market place.
We are speaking with pioneers of analogue and digital moving image about the representation of their work in the market - specifically the art market place. We will be representing some of these artists to sell their work.
At this point we can't specifically name the artists we are speaking to for confidentiality reasons - but they are significant enough to sell their work in editioned and limited runs for sums such as $25,000. This likens the exchange to paying a sum for a limited print run. With moving image editions there has to be not only the 'data' itself, but also the means of display and also - authentication of the work as having a limited run.
With installations, usually only very rich collectors and museums can afford the work - not only in terms of cost but also in terms of display. An international artists does not simply want to sell - they wish to maintain the quality of their work by creating a set of conditions so that their work, when displayed - is displayed at the correct level.
As well as creating a 'shop' with both commercial and research intentions we also hope to tell the stories of early pioneers such as Woody and Steina Vasulka, John Hopkins (Hoppy) and later originators such as Peter Donnebauer, RObert Cahen, Chris Meigh Andrews and Terry Flaxton, Cenbtre director and also working artist.
