UWE Faculty of Cultural Industries ACTIVE IN NEW FEATURE FILM
Over the next 9 moths UWE's Department of Creative Industries has agreed to take part in supporting a new feature film which is to be shot by Geoff Boyle FBKS one of our visiting professors. There will be a series of posts about the subject from shoot through to post, including grading on UWE's Da Vinci Resolve system at the Bower Ashton Campus. Here's the first post which is by way of a confirmation by Geoff of some UWE students involvement in the production: It contains some interesting real world home truths about the process - which is the kind of armor that UWE hopes to provide all its film-making students with..
"OK, I’m off to sunny Las Vegas in a couple of hours and I wanted to get this done before I left.
This is to confirm that…
Jack Hayter will be joining us as an AC2 on The Taking, Michael McCormick will also be joining us as AC2 subject to accommodation being fixed.
There are other people who may join us for a week at a time but I wanted to confirm these key assistants first.
Welcome and thanks for volunteering, this is going to be very much a real job as an AC2 and not one of just looking on. Expect to get your hands dirty, be wet, tired, cold and ****** off!
Gregg, who is copied in on this, is the lead AC and is the person you’ll be directly working with. The reality of a camera crew is very different to the books about it, the books show a hierarchy of DP, Operator, AC and so on, it’s not like that! The AC is the one in charge, we all just pretend that we are. Without the AC’s nothing happens.
So, you will be working for the camera dept. nobody else but if I or the operators ask you to do something that conflicts with what Gregg has said then do what Gregg has said.
I’ve attached a copy of the script and the schedule. As usual the schedule is a greater work of fiction than the script, sorry Bob! But we’ll get around that.
Some basic advice, don’t worry what you look like, be comfortable, be warm and dry.
It’s going to be a tough three weeks but you’ll learn an enormous amount and it’ll really prepare you for the real world after Uni.
Gregg and I are prepping kit the week before from the Wednesday at Provision in Leeds you are welcome to join us but you don’t have to.
Right, I’m off to NAB to talk for just over an hour at the conference and then spend 4 days having fun in the sun with a bunch of old friends!
Cheers
